Mike’s Blog: RANDOM NOTES, END OF 2009
Filed Under chester, mike blog | Leave a Comment
Among other things, I got a Nord Electro 3 for Christmas. I can’t wait to start using it…we’re moving on from the last batch of songs (5) to a new batch. I don’t know what songs will be in the new batch. We have about 15 contenders, with some brand new gems that I worked on with Chester and Brad. The first LP studio meeting of 2010 is next Monday, so we’ll vote on it then. [More]

Dead by Sunrise in Snap Magazine

Given the stratospheric success of Linkin Park and Orgy, it might seem odd that any project comprised of their members would distance itself from their platinum glow. But as it happens, Dead by Sunrise–comprised of Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington, Orgy/Julien-K guitarists Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck, and Julien-K bassist, drummer and keyboardist Brandon Belsky, Elias Andra and Anthony “Fu” Valcic–and their debut album, Out of Ashes, actually arose from a need on everyone’s part to do something different.
DBS unofficially began in 2005 when Bennington wrote a handful of songs outside of the Linkin Park mold. Convinced of their merit, Bennington turned them over to Derakh and Shuck–friends since Linkin Park and Orgy toured early in both their careers–to get their input.
“When we were doing Julien-K, Chester was real interested and kind of wanted to be a part of it, but it didn’t really make sense for him to be in the band,” says Derakh. “Chester had been playing these ideas to Ryan on an acoustic, and Ryan was like, ‘These are really good songs. What are you going to do with them?’” [More]

Chester talks about new album
Filed Under chester, news | Leave a Comment
Linkin Park is now working on its fourth album, and singer Chester Bennington told us they’re pushing their sound further than ever before: “I think that the kind of music that we’re making, the sounds that we’re going for — I mean, you know, we’re playing instruments through pedals that are being then sampled into keyboards and playing those through effects, and running loops and, like, there’s so much craziness happening in the studio right now. Some of the beats are super-complicated, the programming is insane, and it’s fun.” [More]
