Ve’cel article by AZ Central

An article about Ve’cel and their 1st anniversary is at AZ Central:
In a day and age where the record industry is plagued by poor record sales, free downloads and shaky concert attendance, it’s become essential for artists to find additional outlets for their creativity. Chester Bennington. lead singer of multi-platinum-selling rock band Linkin Park, teamed with his Club Tattoo business partner and former band mate Sean Dowdell and launched Ve’cel clothing last year.
The high-end line has emerged as a power house in upscale retail outlets like Nordstrom’s in a fairly short amount of time. But when the first designs hit the racks last year, even Bennington wasn’t sure how consumers would react. “We knew we doing some edgier stuff that was really more illustration driven,” explained Bennington explained, at the Ve’cel 1 year anniversary party at Tryst Night Club in Las Vegas.
Those edgier designs and complex washes are the brainchild of V’ecel designer/president Josh Merrell. “We really try to convey everything that Chester stands for in our clothing” said Merrell. He communicates with Dowdell and Bennington about every other week to come up with new designs and marketing strategies to keep things exciting. “In the future we hope that V’ecel continues to grow organically like it has so far.”

Thousands of Fans Join the Revolution

Before the band took the stage, the fans were greeted with a pounding climatic intro from percussion group Street Drum Corps, which led right into Linkin Park’s opening song, their breakout hit “One Step Closer,” which on previous tours, was used as a staple closer to their live shows.
Although it was a bit odd hearing “One Step Closer” so early in the set, it is enough to get fans energized for the set that was about to dominate their lives for the next 90 minutes. [MORE]

Next was Wake 2.0. It took me forever to figure out what it was but once they got into it I instantly knew what it was and that Given Up was up next. Chester started it with the claps which was quickly followed by the crowd. Chester didn’t do the full 17.5 second scream, he took a breath half way through but it was still loud and raw and I loved it. Then was Lying From You and In Pieces which I loved. One of my best friends told me “If they play In Pieces you better call me so I can hear it.” well I did and she was actually able to hear it. The guitar solo was amazing as usual. Somewhere I Belong started immediatly after In Pieces and was the album version. After SIB the Mike took center stage with Petrified before slamming into Points Of Authority and ending with There They Go. [MORE]

Linkin Park Revs it up
Filed Under chester, interviews, news | Leave a Comment
Q: What’s better about going out on Projekt Revolution as opposed to your own tour, or is it better the other way around?
A: I like playing arenas a lot more than playing outside. I just feel like whether it’s freezing outside or whether it’s hot, you’re in a place where you can control the elements. It’s dark. Everyone gets a light show. But the advantage to playing outside is that you can have more bands. It’s kinda the lesser of two evils. There’s a reason why we only do it once a year (laughs), not all year long.
Amphitheaters are a tricky thing to play. Only the last two bands that play get to really take advantage of production, so nobody gets a light show until the headliner. Second, if it’s 100 degrees outside, and 90 percent humidity, it’s a tough day — which can deter people from wanting to come. [MORE]

Linkin Park screams out for fans
Filed Under news, prorev, reviews | Leave a Comment
Near the top of Linkin Park’s headlining set of the Projekt Revolution tour at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Thursday night, singer Chester Bennington capped the song “Given Up” with a lung-busting scream, demanding, “Tell me what the (expletive) is wrong with me!”
Without skipping a beat, band member Mike Shinoda followed it up with the non sequitur of the year, asking the crowd, “You guys havin’ fun?”
Well, yeah, Mike, but you might want to check on the guy to your left. The one with the tattoos? He seems kind of upset.
But the band made the best of it, delivering blistering takes on “Somewhere I Belong” and “In the End” and showing surprising nuance on “Shadow of the Day.” Without the tats, grim lyrical content and screams, Bennington’s choirboy voice could make him credible competition for a slick pop crooner like Justin Timberlake. The Top 14 Heavy Metal Men of Arizona
Filed Under chester, news | Leave a Comment
Believe it or not, Arizona has always been a haven for heavy metal icons. From the earliest days of heavy metal, the Valley of the Sun has housed and spawned some of the most influential acts in the genre: Flotsam and Jetsam, Sacred Reich, Megadeth, Soulfly, Linkin Park — hell, our state even has ties to Slayer and Metallica. We’re not sure if it’s the purgatory-worthy heat, the mystic mountains, or the minions of metalheads here, but one thing’s for certain: more famous metal musicians live or have lived in Arizona than the average Joe realizes. The 14 most noteworthy Arizona metal men are listed below, in no particular order.

8. Chester Bennington (Linkin Park): Born in Phoenix, Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington attended Greenway High School on Phoenix’s west side, and in 1995, he co-founded the Club Tattoo body art studios in Tempe with Sean Dowdell. He now lives in Orange County, California, but returns to the Valley every year for the annual Club Tattoo anniversary celebrations.
