Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh interview
Filed Under dead by sunrise, interviews | 2 Comments
Check out a great interview with Ryan and Amir from Julien-K/Dead By Sunrise at Stalker Magazine’s website!
You work close together with Chester Bennington, singer of Linkin Park, with whom you founded the band Dead by Sunrise – what is his part in Julien-K?
Amir: We can’t define a role for him, because he helps us in a number of different ways. He helps to write better vocal parts. He helps Ryan to become a better singer. He helps us in many ways in the studio and even outside of the studio in a managing way. We like to call him our executive producer. He is like a brother; it’s like in a family.

Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda Talks New Album
Filed Under interviews, mike | Leave a Comment
Here’s an interview with Mike by Spin.com about the new album.
Did Chester’s going off and working with [solo project] Dead By Sunrise have any residual affect on how he’s now contributing to Linkin Park?
That’s a good question. I related to where Chester was at when he was making the Dead By Sunrise record. I went through the same thing with [Shinoda’s side-project] Fort Minor. He had songs that he had to get out of his system; songs that the rest of the guys in Linkin Park couldn’t necessarily get behind. Not because they wouldn’t like them, but because they aren’t right for a Linkin Park record. I think for both of us, working outside the band made us feel like we could focus better when we eventually came back.Aside from the album, what do you guys have planned for the future?
We really wanted to start a phase in our career where we could release music more often rather than have to wait to put out a new album every four years. The demo album is sort of representative of that. But we also wrote “New Divide” for the Transformers movie. Chester put out his Dead By Sunrise record. We’re working on the new album, so things are already moving along nicely. We’re really trying hard to give fans the opportunity to hear new material from us more often. It’s just a matter of finding the right outlets. Hopefully, those outlets aren’t always in the form of albums. [More]

Dead by Sunrise - More Than A Side Project
Filed Under dead by sunrise, interviews | Leave a Comment
“It’s extremely different. Orgy and Julien-K are both heavily based in electronica. Dead by Sunrise has more of an organic feel. We’re really playing guitar and more classic instruments,” Shuck said. “Chester is the primary writer so that makes the songs sound much different. Much different than Linkin Park as well because Mike (Shinoda) is the primarily writer in Linkin Park. I think we’ve come up with something totally new and unique, and something we can make a couple records with and create an awesome body of work that people really like.” [More]

Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington talks Dead By Sunrise
Filed Under chester, dead by sunrise, interviews | Leave a Comment
Here’s an interview of Chester with musicradar.com
Are you saying that Linkin Park isn’t open to music that isn’t ‘Linkin Park music’?
“Well, see, this is tricky. I thought that at the time. At the moment I would say things are possibly different and that the band is super open-minded. We can go in any direction we want right now, and I’d say that’s the result of working with Rick Rubin. He taught us that anything can work as long as we believe in the material.”
What is the status of Linkin Park? Are you on a break?
“Linkin Park is still a band, very much so. In fact, we’re recording a new record right now. I’m off to the studio today to work on some songs. I gotta tell you, I’m pretty excited. I think this next record could be our best ever. I know everybody says that.” [laughs] [More]
Thanks to Linkin Lady for this.

Chester Bennington’s New Lease On Life

Another interview with Chester about Dead By Sunrise:
SHOCKHOUND: What’s the most personal song on this album for you?
BENNINGTON: Every single one of them is pretty personal, but I think the most important one for me is “Give Me Your Name.” I wrote that one for my [new] wife. We danced to that song at our wedding. I didn’t write the song with the idea that it would make the album. I actually wrote it to play at our wedding, but it turned out to be a great song. “In The Darkness” is another one that is very personal for me. It’s not necessarily about anything personal, but it’s my song about making love and how that feels. At the same time there are songs like “Condemned” and “My Suffering” which talk about my love affair with feeling like shit, so to speak. There’s a weird juxtaposition between some of the songs. Some of them have more of a deep, emotional thing, and some of them are directly about specific things like relapse or learning not to repeat the mistakes of your past relationship in a future relationship. Then there are songs that I tried to mess with a little bit lyrically because they dealt with the God and my personal feeling about God. Those were “Fire” and “Too Late”. Some people kind of get squirmish when you’re dealing with that subject matter, so I changed it up a little bit lyrically to make it more about a relationship between two people rather than a relationship between myself and my God. Linkin Park Album Will Be ‘Grandiose Insanity’
Filed Under articles, chester, dead by sunrise, interviews, videos | Leave a Comment
Here’s a new article/interview of Chester about Linkin Park’s new album and the process, and an interview about Dead By Sunrise.
“It’s like, ‘Oh, let’s go and make this giant opus that no one’s ever done. It’s going to cost billions of dollars and take forever.’ And we’re like, ‘Wait a second, it’s going to cost billions of dollars and take forever,’ ” he laughed. “[So] we might need to just make a record and still try to do a concept but figure out a way to do it without actually waiting another five or six years to put out a record, to try to pull off all the grandiose insanity we were thinking of doing. And we’re doing that. So I would imagine, I’m guessing even conservatively, that we’ll probably have a record out by June of next year.” [More]
And…
Do you plan on touring with Dead by Sunrise?
Yeah, we like to tour as much as we can. It’s gonna be more difficult to tour with Dead by Sunrise than with Linkin Park, simply because Linkin Park is No. 1 and they take the highest priority. So if I need to go in the studio or if I need to go tour with Linkin Park, that’s going to stop whatever Dead by Sunrise is doing. But I’m confident that we’ll be able to do plenty of shows to go around and play as much as we can for people who are fans of Dead by Sunrise. [More]
Special thanks to Ana A from Mike Shinoda Clan for these.

Chester Interviews
Filed Under chester, dead by sunrise, interviews | Leave a Comment
Here are two interviews of Chester about Dead By Sunrise:
Is it neat to have another debut album come out? Most musicians only get one.
It is pretty awesome. This one was as nerve-wracking as when [Linkin Park’s debut] Hybrid Theory came out. It is really cool to not know what’s going to happen. [More]
And…
FROMAN: Out of all the years of being a musician what was your favorite year?
CHESTER: This one by far. [More]
