zah: when will be da album come out? seriously is it 2012???

M: We’ve decided to push the album back one day for every time we get asked “when is the album coming out.”  So, based on the comments here on mikeshinoda.com alone, it looks like it will be out sometime in 2050.  Thanks for your help!

LP4ever: Mike respect bruv and thanx for the game !! but can u leave the gaming world now and reconcentrate ON YOUR NU=METAL MUSIC MORE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

M: You’re welcome for the game.  And I haven’t had an interest in concentrating on nu metal since about 2005.

EDIT: someone in the LPU chat just asked me about this…I guess my answer was incorrect.  I actually haven’t been interest in nu metal since 1998 or 1999.  I never liked that term, nor being associated with it.  Thanks for helping me clarify!

(post #1) adaminator1: GODDAMN STOP POSTING F*CKING EMBEDS IN THE COMMENTS. Mike, you should disable that feature. Like, permanantly. People get confused.

(post #2) adam: What ADAMINATOR1 said. I don’t know what I’m most sick of – the kid with the covers or you people for continuously posting them on every comment section.

M: Are you really two different people?  I hope so, because if you’re one person posting as two people with the same name, that’s just plain weird.  And I agree, the spamming, videos, and music links in the comments section are lame.  I have some folks who are supposed to be moderating, but they…forgot.

Others: Why aren’t you posting any studio updates?

M: Because we’re really busy in the studio right now.  I’m doing some test mixes of some songs, to see what they might sound like finished, and to see if the guys like my mixes.  It’s called a shootout. For those unfamiliar with mixing, look here.  Our engineer Ethan and I are teaming up to mix some stuff, and a couple other mixers are mixing the same songs.  We’ll put all the mixes together on a CD–with no names–and see which mixes the band likes best, just based on the sound.  It’ll be really funny if I pick someone else’s mix. A few new things in Linkin Park world:

We’ve officially moved our band’s Twitter presence over to: http://twitter.com/linkinpark.  Make sure to follow there (and http://twitter.com/m_shinoda; yes, it’s true, I occasionally tweet).

We just surpassed 4 million fans on Facebook.  Pretty awesome. If you haven’t become a fan of us on FB yet, now’s the time…http://www.facebook.com/linkinPark.

And lastly, there was a great Washington Post piece about our game.  Here’s a bit of the story:

“DENVER (Billboard) – When avid technophile Mike Shinoda was approached backstage last year with an idea for developing a Linkin Park iPhone game, the band’s co-frontman knew he wanted it to be more than just another run-of-the-mill artist app.

“It was important to us to do something creative and fun,” he says. “We didn’t want to throw a bunch of songs at the game, slap our name on it and cash the checks.”
The result is “8-Bit Rebellion,” a soon-to-be-released iPhone game with an iPad version on the way. Whereas most artist-branded games tend to be rhythm-based, “8-Bit Rebellion” is an action game that has users fighting enemies alongside members of the band. The soundtrack features several Linkin Park hits in both standard and 8-bit fidelity, plus an exclusive track, “Blackbirds,” for fans who complete the game.
But according to Maryanna Donaldson, creative director of the game’s developer, Artificial Life, the real innovation was the degree to which Linkin Park was involved. Each band member helped design a different “district” in which the game takes place, personalized to his individual interests. Shinoda designed the members’ avatars and edited every line of dialogue. The process wound up taking the better part of a year, but Donaldson says the result sets a new bar for artist-branded apps.

Yeah! Today I wrote a new chorus on piano, we automatic-wrote some vocals, brad copied and pasted an intro into an outro, and I paused to shoot this masterpiece of modern cinema! Holy crap!

A quick “8 BIT REBELLION” update.  Our new game, available for the iPhone and iPod touch, will be out soon.  We’ve pushed the release back a few weeks because we’re testing the game.  In fact, I’m playing the game right now, making sure everything looks good.  So far, there are still some minor changes to make…and I’m taking notes.  We don’t want to release it until all we’ve addressed as many issues as we can!

Also, many of you have asked about the game being available for other platforms, since you don’t all have iPods (although Steve Jobs is hoping you will reconsider, ha).  We’re hoping to get it out for other mobile platforms after it debuts with Apple.  No word on that yet; it may take a while.  For now, it will only be available on iPod and iPod touch.

Lastly, let there be no confusion: the song we released for DOWNLOAD TO DONATE is not the same song as the one on the game.  The song on the game is ANOTHER brand new Linkin Park song.

Thanks,

Ten years ago, I had just quit my job at a tiny graphic design house in North Hollywood. My band was writing our first album, and hoping to release it someday.

A lot has happened in the past ten years.
Those of you who visit this site probably already know a lot of the big deals in LP history; here is MY DECADE LIST: the top five most underrated (but important) things that happened to Linkin Park in the past ten years… [More]

Among other things, I got a Nord Electro 3 for Christmas. I can’t wait to start using it…we’re moving on from the last batch of songs (5) to a new batch. I don’t know what songs will be in the new batch. We have about 15 contenders, with some brand new gems that I worked on with Chester and Brad. The first LP studio meeting of 2010 is next Monday, so we’ll vote on it then. [More]

“I spent a period of time really despondent and upset with trying to fight through it all, and finally I managed to get my technique to a different level. I was listening one day to a record by Linkin Park called Meteora. It was the first time that I had ever purchased a rock record. Prior to that time, I was very much a jazz purist, and that’s why I had gone so far in the jazz world. However, that purism didn’t work for me. So then I finally broke that habit and checked out Linkin Park on the recommendation of some people who heard me describing something that I wanted to do in music. And it really opened me up. I heard the song “Somewhere I Belong,” and to hear Chester Bennington scream reminded me of Coltrane howling and wailing on the saxophone, and the harmonies they were using reminded me of Miles Davis, and reminded me of Puccini. And then the power of the drums reminded me of Elvin Jones. And the clarity of the bass reminded me of the power of the orchestra.” Here’s the whole interview: http://blog.ted.com/2009/03/an_evolution_in.php

Today, Phoenix, Chester, and I wrote a song so awesome it vaporized Chester’s arm.

Unfortunately, you’ll never hear it. we don’t want to risk any fans getting vaporized.
